Power Rankings

The penultimate Power Rankings of season 2016 for Footy Prophet. We have a new leader up top, while we also have a new team that has moved to the bottom of the rankings. Round 21 was one of the more entertaining rounds in recent memory with plenty of games going right down to the wire. As always, there are plenty of movers and shakers but do your rankings match up with mine?

Adelaide ADELAIDE +1 This team has firepower everywhere and are looking ominous heading into September. Will their soft run hurt them when the whips are cracking though?
Sydney SYDNEY +3 We questioned how legitimate their form was given how dismal Port Adelaide were last week. The Saints gave them their best shot in the first half then a guy called Lance Franklin took over and reminded us how good he is. They’re legitimate.
Hawthorn HAWTHORN Their first quarter was a big finger to anyone that wrote them off during the week. From there they took the foot off the gas and cruised home against a North Melbourne side falling apart.
Geelong GEELONG Bad kicking is going to cost this team in a final when it counts. Used their get out of jail card against the Tigers.
GWS GWS -4 That was a game they should have won against West Coast and shows why they won’t be a contender in 2016. Could be a game they draw on in two to three seasons however when they are truly contending.
Western Bulldogs WESTERN BULLDOGS Barely held on against Collingwood and didn’t look impressive doing it. Marcus Bontempelli is unflappable and could be Patrick’s biggest challenger for Charlie.
West Coast WEST COAST Finally! The Eagles did something that made us sit up and take notice on the road. Maybe they have been foxing all year to get ready for September?
Melbourne MELBOURNE +2 The Demons are one of the hottest teams in the comp and are playing really attractive footy. Imagine if they went down to Kardinia Park in Round 23 and won to progress into the finals.
North Melbourne NORTH MELBOURNE They are going to be an embarrassment in September and will have a heavy fall in 2017.
St Kilda ST KILDA -2 The Saints ran out of steam against an uber impressive Sydney. A wonderful season for them and finals must surely beckon in 2017.
Collingwood COLLINGWOOD +1 They brought the pressure against the Bulldogs and gave one of their best performances of the season. Bucks says that their tackle pressure isn’t a defining factor for them, but the results are plain for everyone to see.
Port Adelaide PORT ADELAIDE -1 I’m not sure if this week was worse than last week. Why isn’t Ken Hinkley under more pressure?
Richmond RICHMOND +1 The Tigers showed heart and fight against the Cats which is all you can ask for. Heartbreaking to lose a game they really should have won, but at least it looks like there may be a plan heading into 2017.
Gold Coast GOLD COAST -1 They deserve to go down further for the rubbish they served up against the Bombers. Tom Lynch wouldn’t have been able to catch a cold against Essendon, which was disappointing for his quest to win the Coleman Medal.
Carlton CARLTON That first half against Brisbane was super disappointing in a game they should have won. All the early season shine is gone for Carlton now.
BL BRISBANE LIONS +1 Did the players play with freedom because they now know Leppitsch is gone come season’s end? Whatever it is, again, where has it been all season?
Essendon ESSENDON +1 They win and they deserve to go up. Whatever your opinion is on the saga, their fans have stuck by them and this win was a great reward for all their support through a difficult year.
Fremantle FREMANTLE -2 Any danger this lot just try a little bit for Pavlich? He is Fremantle and his club is sending him out with a whimper. Their performances are harking back to the real dark days of the anchor.
