Rory Sloane has not recovered in time from the appendectomy he had just eight days ago. The risk of internal damage was too great for the Crows star who will have to wait another week or two – depending on Thursday’s result – before he can take the field again. Should Adelaide win tomorrow night and progress straight to the preliminary final, Sloane will have gone four weeks without playing a game.
Daniel Talia and Crows’ captain Taylor Walker have both recovered and will take the field alongside Hugh Greenwood whose tackling pressure will be a boost for the team. Wayne Milera and Alex Keath have been omitted.
The speculation regarding Steve Johnson has come to a head with the crafty forward dumped in favour on the more consistent Matt de Boer. Devon Smith will also miss out due to knee soreness, a complaint he has been battling with all season. GWS have opted to take a team to Adelaide that can run out the full four quarters but Smith is expected to be available for the Giants’ next match, whether next week or in a fortnight. Defender Harrison Himmelberg comes into the Giants side for just his 14th career game.
