In a world of fantasy and drafting, tipping has been forgotten. But we at Footy Prophet appreciate tradition and a sense of the old-school. Footy Prophet experts will go head to head in season 2017, which will no doubt provide some unexpected results. As well as to give a sense of expectation for results of the weekend ahead, we’ll see which Footy Prophet Writer reigns supreme and who knows their footy best.
Western Bulldogs, Greater Western Sydney, Essendon, Sydney, Geelong, St Kilda, Fremantle, Carlton, West Coast
Pick of the week: Two weeks in a row the Bombers have been outlasted and lost games they really should’ve won, whereas the Pies still have no idea what their best 22 looks like. No Moore hurts Collingwood’s already struggling forward line and with Ben Reid likely to take his spot, who is going to match up on Joe Daniher? I expect Essendon to bounce back with a big win.
Adelaide, Greater Western Sydney, Essendon, Sydney, Geelong, Richmond, North Melbourne, Melbourne, West Coast
Pick of the week: Richmond are up and about and the real deal this year, they’ve conquered an almighty demon and there’s only the hoodoo of a finals win then a premiership left on the menu. St Kilda hang fat against Fremantle but Richmond should have enough class to put the Saints away early and get a comfortable victory.
Adelaide, Hawthorn, Essendon, Sydney, Geelong, Richmond, Fremantle, Carlton, Port Adelaide
Pick of the week: Blues to enact revenge over the Demons just like in the corresponding 2016 fixture between the two. The Dees have been ravaged by injury and the Blues’ midfield should ensure their sixth win for 2017.
Western Bulldogs, Greater Western Sydney, Essendon, Sydney, Geelong, Richmond, Fremantle, Carlton, Port Adelaide
Pick of the week: Geelong. Although Brisbane have been starting to string together some consistent performances, the Cats are a side who are fighting for a spot in the top 2. The Cats will feel like they let one get away after their loss last week to the Giants, so expect them to be extra determined to come away from the Gabba with the 4 points.
Adelaide, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Sydney, Geelong, Richmond, Fremantle, Melbourne, West Coast
Pick of the week: Sydney to defeat Gold Coast. Following six losses to open their season, the Swans are now the form team of the competition and a seemingly unlikely finals berth is well within their reach. They’ve now won seven of their last eight games, and have never lost to the Suns – with the closest margin being 35 points. With this one at the SCG, and some of Sydney’s elder statesmen returning to form after injury lay-offs, the Swans will make it eight from nine and continue their dominance over the Suns.
Adelaide, Greater Western Sydney, Collingwood, Sydney, Geelong, Richmond, Fremantle, Carlton, West Coast
Pick of the week: Geelong, it’s easy to be bullish about Brisbane at the moment with the Lions stringing together some good performances and the earlier than expected return of Dayne Beams. Brisbane on paper look quite inexperienced down back, and the Cats should have enough fire power up forward to deliver the 4 points in Tom Lonergan’s 200th game.
