Adelaide trades Jarryd Lyons and pick 71; Adelaide receives pick 43 and pick 67
Gold Coast trades pick 43 and pick 67; Gold Coast receives Jarryd Lyons and pick 71
Lyons wasn’t happy with the offer that the Crows tabled to him and the Crows weren’t keen to offer him any more. He’s been shopped around a bit this trade period, has Lyons; When Carlton weren’t interested, Gold Coast got involved and offered picks. Lyons will fit in really well at the Suns, he’ll slot straight into the midfield and should continue in the form in which he finished 2016. At the Suns, Lyons will bring a little bit on IP from a top eight side and some of the Adelaide values will translate well at the Gold Coast.
Club Trade Rating:
Adelaide – Chasing Bryce Gibbs became priority number one for Adelaide and the Lyons trade may help facilitate the deal. They’ve taken the picks offered by the Suns knowing they were unlikely to keep him.
Rating: -2. – we valued Lyons far higher than, effectively, pick 43. Adelaide should have fought for a second-round selection here.
Gold Coast – the Suns should be happy, they’ve gotten a bargain for Lyons and he’ll make a real impact in their midfield next year and beyond. He adds another dimension to their midfield and gives them another avenue to goal.
Rating: +2. – a bargain for Gold Coast. They had picks to burn and they’ve still come out on top, well done.
Adelaide – Lyons’ departure will give an opportunity to one or more of the Crows’ younger players to spend more time in the middle of the ground. Charlie Cameron could be the big winner from a fantasy point of view, as he appears the most obvious to be given a chance. Not much else should change for the Crows from the Lyon’s trade.
Gold Coast – So many question marks around how Lyons will perform next year from a fantasy perspective. He will more than likely spend even more time in the midfield than he did this season, albeit he will be playing for a less successful club. You would think he should increase his output, however was his break-out season a flash in the pan, or will he kick on – particularly in a new environment. Lyons arrival will also limit the amount of time the Suns’ younger midfielders spend in the middle.
