Possible move for Marley

Player name: Marley Williams

Current Club: Collingwood

Potential clubs: Richmond has been talked about as a possible destination for the rebounding defender. The Tigers might wish to add depth to their half back line after adding Chris Yarran last year, despite him not being able to get on the park in 2016. Williams, originally from WA may take a chance to return home to a WA club, but neither are yet to show any interest in the Collingwood player.

Original price: Collingwood selected Marley Williams with pick 35 in the 2012 rookie draft.

The Good: Williams has played 68 games in five years for the Magpies. Williams is known for his ability to break lines off half back, his long left foot kick, attack on the footy and his ability to play lock down roles on dangerous half forwards. His best season was in 2015 where he averaged 21 disposals and four rebound 50s a game.

The bad: A return back to that form would see him welcome at most clubs, however he couldn’t quite replicate that form in 2016. He injured his foot earlier in the year and missed some time, before spending most of the season in-between the senior side and the VFL, playing just 11 games averaging 16 disposals.

What his club wants: The Magpies may look for a mid round selection in return for Williams. However the Magpies are rumoured to hold interest in Ben Lennon and a swap between the clubs to exchange the players could work for both parties.

What he’s worth: At just 23 Marley Williams has plenty of footy ahead of him and has shown he is capable at the AFL level. He could command a pick in the 30s in the national draft should a club have a role for him.

What we’d pay: Pick 32-37

Possible trade scenarios
1. Collingwood trade Marley Williams to Richmond for Ben Lennon.
2. Richmond trade pick 42 for Marley Williams.

The verdict: It looks likely that Williams could be given an opportunity to move elsewhere. The trade is made a bit difficult due to Richmond not having a second round pick to work with, but one would expect the two clubs to be able to reach an agreement in some form or another.
