The Probst – The Grand Finalists Revealed

The Probst League

We now know who our two Grand Finalists are for 2017 after two matches that were hardly a contest. So much for Preliminary Final week being the best week of footy…

Probst 21 - 10

Their Brownlow medal was conducted on Monday night where Chiddz’s Tom Mitchell took home the coveted ‘Immunity Idol’ with 29 votes. Rounding out the podium positions was Sarge’s Dangerfield with 22 votes and Sneanzy’s Merrett with 19 votes.

Probst 21 - 9

In the battle between first and second on the ladder in the First Preliminary Final, Cuffy earned his spot in the big dance with a comfortable win over Chiddz.

Both backlines were appalling with no players scoring above 100 in either side. The Super Best Friends did have the slight edge with all players scoring between 65-90, whereas the Mipni’s scores were all over the shop.

Probst 21 - 8

The midfield and ruck duel also went the way of Cuffy despite having his captain being outperformed by 62 points total. There were three centuries for Cuffy and Seb Ross’ 87 as his captain. Chiddz had Mitchell as captain who scored his only century for the entire match.

Probst 21 - 7

The forward line battle was much closer with the Super Best Friends again just having the edge. He managed only on century but all scores were above 70. No centuries from the Mipni’s but all scores were between 70 and 95.

Probst 21 - 6

Thoughts from the coaches in their post-match press conference;

“Another easy win for the besties. Guys keep calling me Smuffy. Is it being cocky of you’re backing it up? I think now.. Back2Back!”

“It burns me to the core to be knocked out by Smuffy. His smug cloud of smugness is a dark time for our league and Bantz must prevail this week.”

Probst 21 - 5

In the Second Preliminary Final, Goughy was unable to continually defy the odds and make it all the way to the Grand Final after Bantz produced a classy display to put an end to his dreams.

Like the first match-up, both backlines performed poorly and weren’t able to produce one score over 100 between them. Bantz had the advantage overall with all scores above 65 and unfortunately for Goughy he had two score under 40 and an underperforming Docherty as captain.

Probst 21 - 4

The midfield battle was very even overall but again the Bant Lords had the better of the Purple Wiggles. It was four centuries each, even though his captain (Zorko) wasn’t one of these.

Probst 21 - 3

In the forward line there was one century each and both coaches had some low scores. However, Bantz managed three scores over 85 compared to only two from the Wiggles.

Probst 21 - 2

Thoughts from the coaches in their post-match press conference;

“I’ve become so numb, I can’t feel you there. Become so tired, so much more aware. I’m becoming this, all I want to do is be more like me and less like you.”

“The people’s team fell ever so short on a dream run from 8th. I would like to thank the supporters for backing us throughout the finals. Just sorry we couldn’t deliver. Amazing how deep you can go in the finals when you don’t fall asleep in the draft.”

Probst 21 - 1

So, there we have it, the Grand Final to determine the winner of the Probst in 2017 will be between Cuffy and Bantz. This will be a close match if we take into account what has happened between these two sides this year. The first contest went Cuffy’s way by two points (2023-2021) and in the second match Bantz got his revenge winning by only 19 points (1977-1958). Let’s hope this one also comes down to the wire as well. We are tipping the Supreme Bant Lords to get the win mainly due to the captain friendly match-up options available to him.
