Prophet’s Profit: Round 3

The Prophet’s Profit is back with a bang for a 5th year! Here to take you through the ups and down of the fantasy season. The aim of this article is to empower you with knowledge of the current fantasy stock market.

Round three is in the books and positions are really starting to take shape on your league ladder. You’re either ahead of the ledger at 3-0 or 2-1, or you are behind the ledger at 1-2 or 0-3.

If you are 0-3 it’s important not to hit the panic button. But there are things you can do improve your team and your scoring output. A loss can often come from the last couple of positions in either defence, mids and forwards being sub-par or poor. One way you can fix that is offering a 2 for 1 where you give away one of your better performers, perhaps an over-achiever for 2 solid performers that will contribute to your team consistently each week.

On the other end of the spectrum if you’re sitting 3-0 now is the time to start making moves and trading in injured players who could improve your team in a few weeks. Grant Birchall, Jack Steven and Jordan DeGoey are a few that spring to mind that you could buy in at a cut price rate, which will improve your team over the course of the season.

Nathan Jones
The Melbourne midfielder has got off to a bright start to the season. He is currently averaging 119 and 32 disposals a game. Without the sole responsibility of the captaincy this season, Jones seems to be performing brilliantly in the Demons midfield. I look at his early season scores and I can’t help but feel I’ve seen this movie before. Back in 2014 he averaged 115 over the first six games of the season, before coming back down to earth with an average of 95 for the rest of the season. I can see him coming back to the pack a bit, if you can sell him as a 100+ mid I’d be doing it.
Advice: Sell High

Tex Walker
The Adelaide captain has had a great start to the year. He is averaging 19 disposals and three goals over his first two games of the season. Adelaide have also began the season in incredible form and are rightly top of the table. Walker is obviously a big part of that. I feel as though he is not going to continue averaging over 100 and his his ceiling is around the 80-85 mark, so if you can sell him for more than that then do it.
Advice: Sell High

Dion Prestia
The Tigers midfielder only managed 63 fantasy points on the weekend against the Eagles at the MCG, bringing his average for the year down to 82. I feel like his score on the weekend was in the most part due to poor weather and driving rain at the MCG on Saturday. A lot of Prestia’s scoring comes from contested possessions, in and under and winning clean possession. It’s very had to take the ball cleanly in a contested situation in the rain, which Prestia found out on Saturday. I’m predicting Prestia to score better in dryer weather. Buy him low if you can.
Advice: Buy Low

Position changes come out on Wednesday afternoon. See Anthony Wingard’s article on all the speculated changes here.

Are form lines clearing up yet? So many draft faithfuls sitting in waivers.

Cyril, Billings, Shiels, Savage, Baguley, K Jack, Wingard just to name a few. Would love an article for up & comers.

What has happened to the article ‘the twos’? Very insightful piece that allowed coaches an insight on who to draft. Afl does an article but footy prophet did a run down of top performers and listed their fantasy output also

Hey Jack, I used to do The Twos, but haven’t had the time this year. I’ll be posting some of the relevant scores via Twitter throughout the year.

A bit lack lustre here guys! It seems like you might be pushed for time! Just 3 players? Really?

What should I be trying to get prestia for? What would be a decent offer?

Completely depends on who you have on your list to trade mate. Throw some names of players you wouldn’t mind trading away
