Puopolo ready for midfield time

Small forward Paul Puopolo has spent much of the pre-season with Hawthorn’s midfield group in a bid to become another option through the centre for the reigning premiers.

With the new interchange rules coming into play for season 2016, Puopolo, who has played as a small utility throughout his career, may become an x-factor for the Hawks’ midfield throughout the year. He kicked 29 goals and averaged 5 tackles a game in 2015, becoming one of the best pressure forwards in the competition. As Hawthorn’s gameplan evolves, especially without Jarryd Roughead, more will be expected from the likes of Puopolo, who can certainly have an impact in contested situations.
