Swans and Giants swap selections

The Trade

Sydney trade picks 39 and 52 to GWS: Sydney receives pick 31

GWS trade pick 31: GWS receives picks 39 and 52

The Brief

Hard to understand the reasoning for Sydney doing this trade unless they feel they need to move up those eight spots in the National Draft, or they have a very late deal they are trying to complete before the trade deadline of 2pm on Friday afternoon. From a purely points perspective Sydney receive 606 points, while the Giants get 692.

Club Trade Rating

Sydney – Although the 92 points the Swans lose in this deal is not a lot, they haven’t gained much either. If the selection is part of a strategy to gain a player either late on Friday or through the draft, the deal is a good one for them. Otherwise, it’s hard to see the point.

Rating – Even

GWS – The Giants have done well on this trade of points. With a far better crop of academy players than the Swans this year, GWS need points, and moving down from a late second to early third round won’t affect them at all, but the extra 86 points will come in very handy.
