WAFL Colts Scouting Notes: Falcons down Lions in Thriller

On Friday night West Perth overcame Subiaco in a thrilling match at HBF Arena. With only a minute to go, West Perth’s Oscar Allen was able to convert a set shot that gave the Falcons a five-point victory. Below are the most notable players from the game.

KEY FORWARD | 19-03-1999 | 193cm | 83kg

The hero for the home side, Allen kicked the clutch goal that secured the four points for the Falcons. But this wasn’t all he did. He finished the game with 14 possessions, 15 hit-outs, eight marks, five inside 50s and two goals in a dominant display. When he was up forward he always provided a presence and his marking skills and footy nous were on full display. He also pinch-hit in the ruck for West Perth, highlighting his versatility. Allen’s draft stocks could be set to soar with performances like this.

MIDFIELD | 07-05-1999 | 183cm | 78kg

The most productive midfielder on the park, West was simply everywhere at HBF Arena. He finished with 33 possessions (six more than the next best player on the ground), six marks, six tackles and two inside 50s. His endurance and skills were there for all to see. This performance follows a 29-possession outing against East Perth in the previous week, and West looks set for a dominant season for the Falcons.

MIDFIELD | 15-03-1998 | 172cm | 68kg

Another productive midfielder, Yem finished with 25 possessions for the second consecutive week. However what would please the Falcons’ coaching staff, is that his tackling ability was conspicuous, finishing with seven tackles as well as numerous other pressure acts. Despite being an over-ager, Yem is a player well worth keeping an eye on throughout 2017.

MIDFIELD | 21-11-1998

Arguably the best player for the Lions, Ainsworth finished with 24 possessions, five marks, five tackles, and two goals in a command performance. Both his goals came through his smarts, as he was able to burst through congestion before snapping them both through. Ainsworth’s decision-making is elite, and whenever he had the ball the game looked in slow motion.

MIDFIELD | 06-06-1999 | 186cm | 86kg

An inside bull, Hayden continued his fine start to the 2017 season with 27 possessions, five tackles, three marks and two inside 50s. Hayden was a star in the stoppages often winning the contested possession before bursting away from the stoppages and kick-starting the Lions’ attacking forays.

RUCK | 31-08-1999 | 196cm | 95kg

A dominant display saw Miller enhance his reputation as a premier ruckman of the Colts competition. He finished with 11 possessions, 29 hit-outs (12 more than the next best), and he also provided a presence up forward with two inside 50s and a goal. With more strong performances like this one, recruiters are sure to be monitoring him closely.
