On Saturday afternoon, Subiaco and Peel went to war in a pulsating game at Leederville Oval. The Thunder started the game off with a bang, opening the game with the first three goals but the Lions were able to regain the lead in the second quarter and held a 3-point advantage heading into half-time. After the main break it was a free-for-all, especially in the third term, when both teams combined for nine goals. In the last quarter Subiaco managed to withhold the Thunder’s pressure and were able to run out victors by 10 points. Below are the most notable players from the game.

DURAK TUCKER | PEEL THUNDER

DEFENDER | 187cm | 77kg

A bottom-age prospect, Tucker has had a brilliant start to the 2017 WAFL Colts season, and continued his rich vein of form in the fixture against the Lions. Stationed on the half-back line, Tucker accumulated 17 possessions, took nine marks, laid two tackles and recorded one inside 50. His rebounding was a key in keeping the Thunder in the game.

JARRAD FAZIOLLI | PEEL THUNDER

SMALL FORWARD | 172cm | 71kg

The small forward was electric and finished the game with three goals from 14 possessions. Whenever the ball went forward he carried a presence such was his pace, energy and footy smarts. Faziolli is also a bottom-age prospect and with performances like this, recruiters will be monitoring him closely for next year’s draft.

JAKEB SHINE | PEEL THUNDER

DEFENDER | 188cm | 76kg

Last year’s Best and Fairest winner, Shine was sensational on the half-back line for the Thunder. He only finished with 13 possessions, five marks and two inside 50s, but his rebounding and leadership were pivotal in keeping the Thunder within touching distance of the Lions.

LIAM HICKMOTT | SUBIACO

DEFENDER | 176cm | 67kg

The no-nonsense defender was again superb for the Lions. Down back, he was the man telling his team-mates where to be stationed and he also knew when to come off his direct opponent to help his fellow team-mates out when they were in trouble.

BRAYDEN AINSWORTH | SUBIACO

MIDFIELD

Ainsworth backed up his performance against West Perth last week. In the midfield he gathered 24 possessions, took five marks, recorded three inside 50s and kicked a goal in a dominant display. He also showed a damaging fend off similar to how Dustin Martin and Sam Powell-Pepper fend off their opponents. Ainsworth’s stocks are soaring by the minute.

JORDAN FARAONE | SUBIACO

SMALL FORWARD

Up forward, Faraone was dynamic for the Lions. In his first game of the season he kicked three goals from 13 possessions, but he also laid three tackles and had performed a host of pressure acts within the forward 50. He was the one that got the Lions out of trouble when he converted a set shot 45 metres out late in the last quarter.

KYRON HAYDEN | SUBIACO

MIDFIELD | 186cm | 86kg

In the first three games of the year, Hayden polled five votes in the WAFL Colts Coaches Award and looks set to record more votes after a dominant outing against the Thunder. He finished with 23 possessions, five inside 50s and three marks. His strength around the stoppages was key to the Lions running out victors.
