WAFL Scouting Notes: Miller heroics save Subiaco

Foley

In round 16 of the WAFL Colts Competition, Subiaco defeated Perth by 13 points at Leederville Oval on Saturday morning.

Below were the best performers of the game.

LUKE ENGLISH | PERTH | MIDFIELD | 179cm | 78kg

Despite only being 17-years-old, English continues to impress, and he is bound to skyrocket up the rankings for the 2018 AFL Draft. Against the Lions he gathered 25 possessions, took five marks, laid three tackles and kicked a goal in a dazzling display.

NYIKA JOHN | PERTH | HALF-BACK | 177cm | 72kg

Stationed on the half-back line, John oozed class. He finished with 18 possessions, and seven marks but it was his coolness under pressure and his ability to execute his precise skills that would have the Perth coaching staff rapt with his performance.

SYDNEY STACK | PERTH | HALF-FORWARD | 179cm | 68kg

The highly rated Stack was phenomenal for the Demons. The Northam junior gathered 16 possessions, took five marks, laid two tackles, recorded two inside 50s and kicked a clutch goal on half-time to underlie his potential stardom. His marking efforts were remarkable, including several contenders for mark of the year.

JOSEPH UGLE | PERTH | MIDFIELD | 178cm | 84kg

The 2017 WA U18s State Academy member again continued his excellent season for Perth. The Redcliffe junior accumulated 20 possessions, took three marks, laid three tackles and recorded three inside 50s in an inspiring performance. His efforts almost got the Demons over the line.

LIAM CONNOLLY | SUBIACO | KEY DEFENDER | 192cm | 77kg

The Subiaco skipper led superbly for the Lions yet again. The Scarborough junior accumulated 13 possessions, took seven marks and recorded three inside 50s in a true captain’s performance. His ability to intercept the opposition’s attacking forays makes him an attractive key position prospect.

KYRON HAYDEN | SUBIACO | MIDFIELD | 185cm | 88kg

The raging bull was at his fearsome best against Perth. Hayden accumulated 20 possessions, laid three tackles, took two marks and kicked a goal in a superb outing for the Lions. His attack on the ball and the man should have recruiters closely monitoring his progress.

LIAM HICKMOTT | SUBIACO | MIDFIELD | 176cm | 67kg

Currently fourth in the WAFL Colts Coaches Award, Hickmott produced yet another outstanding performance for Subiaco. The Sorrento-Duncraig junior finished the game with 23 possessions, five tackles, four inside 50s and three marks in another typical workhorse performance.

BEN MILLER | SUBIACO | RUCK | 196cm | 98kg

Without doubt the best player on the ground, Miller was the one who dragged Subiaco to victory. He gathered 18 possessions, won 44 hit-outs, took seven marks, recorded three inside 50s, laid two tackles and kicked a goal in a performance that should see his draft stocks soar even further. His last quarter was simply inspirational – he gathered eight possessions, won 13 hit-outs and kicked the goal that got Subiaco in front.
