Witts battles alone against Sydney rucks

Jarrod Witts was handed solo ruck duties against the Swans’ ruck duo of Tippett and Sinclair but was well beaten.

Analysis

With Nathan Buckley choosing to leave Brodie Grundy out of the Pies’ Round One side to face Sydney, Witts was given a big responsibility against the experienced Sydney pairing. He battled manfully but was well beaten in the hitouts 44-26. Witts had some support from Travis Cloke in the second half, but Buckley may revert back to dual ruckmen in future matches by recalling Grundy.
